Griffon is about regeneration and renewal. Our aim is to help develop new opportunities in the area, by working 'in partnership' with like minded organisations, partners, members and individuals. Our vision is to ensure that the strengths, individuality, views and aspirations of the Griffon Area are promoted and encouraged, allowing local people the opportunity to enjoy and value their locality and aspire to a healthy, active and fulfilled life. This is supported by a strong sense of community and engagement. Being constituted as a charity, a Local Area Partnership can attract money to fund those things that will benefit our community. Partnership working is a way of pooling resources between partners and other agencies, avoiding duplication and enriching services either through joint-working or influence.
Griffon can also act as a 'signpost' for instance, providing information on funding opportunities for community organisations or voluntary groups. Griffon has extensive experience in completing funding or project applications and is able to offer advice in these difficult areas. Griffon also has access to useful 'networks' whether they be statutory bodies, business or voluntary organisations. Through its own networking opportunities, Griffon has the acquired knowledge of just who is the right person or organisation to contact about a particular problem or subject. Whilst not being able to solve a problem ourselves, we can be confident that 'we know a man who can'.
The Griffon Symbol
North Walsham is the hub of an area population of around 27,000 people, with over half living in the surrounding 25 parishes. The area enjoys a rich heritage and a legacy of many beautiful medieval churches. In 2006 the Partnership adopted the Griffon symbol, a unique and strong branding with local roots, based on the Paston family crest, and also the Griffon is the heraldic supported on North Walsham's coat of arms. This has historical connections with the wool trade in the area. Traditionally, the Griffon is a vigilant guardian, not unlike the aims of the Griffon Area Partnership. We have also branded the Partnership Area as "Griffon Country", an area with its own unique identity, and a genuine alternative for visitors to explore. It is our intention to make it an area as well known as the Norfolk Broads and the North Norfolk Coast.
